I am totally in the same boat. I have another recommendation for you beyond take-out. There’s a new line of frozen, fully cooked whole grains by a company called Village Harvest that’s being sold in your area. Full disclosure, I work for them, but seriously I have found their products to be life-saving for moms like us. Since they’re fully cooked grains–liked brown rice, quinoa, wheatberries, etc.–you don’t have to do anything to them, but if you want to feel like you’re cooking and toss in some veggies or something it’s nothing. I know they’re in Raley’s and Costco around you. Feel free to contact me personally or check out their Facebook page or website if you want more info.

Thank you for this. I go through days upon days of wanting to work, and feeling guilty for wanting to because it would mean the kids would be in school or something and I just appreciate so much that I’m not the only one who goes nuts being home!

I vividly remember your youngest years and your sister’s before you. I agonized over my need to go to work and my guilt about staying home. In the end I did both and found a way to work at home, which was even more crazy making. Your ability to recognize your own needs benefits your children immensely and is to be greatly admired. It can be so difficult to entertain a little one all day and not go insane yourself, I wish more people out there would realise that there is no perfect ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution as personalities must be accounted for! My little boy has loved his time at nursery and has a fantastic memory book of things he has achieved there. I am currently at home with him for the next 6 months due to maternity leave and he is enjoying this time also- but it is hard work! we have to constantly find playgroups or parks or paintings to do and I quite often look at my ironing pile and wonder when I will get around to it…

Keep up the good work, it is refreshing to read such honest writing!
